Description  Warnings: Mentions of; Death, illness, starvation, survivors guilt

"I'm so sorry for your loss, Kentucky. I can't begin to imagine what you're going through right now." Alma whispered, barely above the rain in the softest voice she could. Something about staring down at a child's skull made her throat feel tight. She placed a comforting hand on his back, which was chilled to the bone from standing out here so long. "There was no way we could have caught it soon enough, please don't blame yourself dear. Find solace in the fact that she's feeling much better now. And she loved you."

But her words didn't penetrate the fog in his mind. It was swimming with a flurry of emotions that numbed each other and canceled each out. Too much going on his his mind. "It's alright." he said, his voice colder than the chill of the rain, "I'll be alright."

Her lips pursed for a moment, she could tell he wasn't being honest and wasn't handling this as well as he'd like her to think. Giving it her best effort she put on a smile, "How about we get out of this rain and get something warm to eat. We can come back to visit when the rain stops. I promise."

He was wordless, sitting for ages before he'd forced himself to nod in agreement. He let himself be hoisted by Alma and into her warm arms but his eyes never left the grave.

His sister had died. Something was wrong with her since she'd hatched. She couldn't keep down food, her body seemed to reject it and attack itself. Eventually she'd starved to death and he was helpless to watch. He didn't like that feeling. What a cruel and unfair death for someone. To starve. Why was it her and not him? Why did he have to be alone now.

I can't write right now, I'll try to fix this later.
