Description
An Image I've waited over 10 months to finally complete.I drew the sketch last year and had it waiting on the shelf ever since due to having personal time limited to zero.
It was only until recent that I felt that its time HAD come and couldnt wait any longer, so I cleared a couple hours each day to work on this.
And finally Its here!!
DRAGON MAID
Sometimes waiting almost a year to see a finished artwork really makes you feel proud on the result!

I love the colouring!
I wish I'd finally figure out how to do proper gradients within 1 object. Like you going from blue-ish to reddish from neck to head of the dragon.
any chances you could give a hint how you go about that stuff, pretty please?

Theres no "proper"way doing doing gradients.
A little tip of understanding how light works is to place an object halfway in the light and half in the shade.
'Then you''ll see the tones which are in between.
Its that combnined with alot of patience

Thanks, I understand. But did handpicked the colours and paint that gradient yourself completely? Or did you use some help from a gradient tool and then painted over it or...Β I really don't know. Β―\_(γ)_/Β― I look at stuff like that and am always left wondering how to go about it.

I dont use very often the gradient tool for objects, mostly for large areas.
What you can try is to colour the surrounding background first and then colouring the main object.
Because depending on the light source you will have different colours.
Like for example on the dragon, i first drew the background until I got the result I wanted and then that made the toning on the neck much more easy.
