Description

I made Fumiko for the first Danganronpa game. This section contains spoilers for the entirety of the first game.

Fumiko is a cute, compassionate, and airheaded poet who kinda plays the role of 'spiritual healer' in the group. Fumiko was already really into poetry, and she used it as an outlet when her dad was in the hospital with cancer. Fumiko's poetry is often about loss and grief, and she's been invited to many funerals to read her poetry. As such, she brings it upon herself to host a small funeral service every time one, two, or three of their classmates are lost in the killing game. This allows the remaining classmates to work through their grief.

During the game, Fumiko was convinced that she'd be one of the murder victims. And she prepared for that, by making an announcement up-front that she wanted the survivor(s) to publish the poetry she'd written during the game. Luckily for her, she ended up not dying (because her death would affect the plot too much). From the moment the game began, Fumiko promised herself that she'd never kill anyone, because she believed that a person loses a piece of themselves once they kill someone. The most difficult motive to withstand for her was the first one, as she really wanted to know what happened to her mom. She regulated her emotions by basically assuming that her mother was already dead, and that there was no reason for her to kill anyone to get out.

Due to her kind personality, Fumiko can get along with almost everyone, but she gets along best with Toko, Aoi and Yasuhiro. Yasuhiro was her best friend, even before The Disaster, and as such, she wears the same bracelet as him. After her mind was wiped, she was still wearing the bracelet. As such, when she thought she was meeting Yasuhiro for the first time, she attributed her wearing of the bracelet as a sign from the universe that Yasuhiro and her were always meant to be friends. When this was revealed during the final trial, it was a big facepalm moment for everyone else involved.

Fumiko's friendship with Toko is strange, considering Toko doesn't know how to respond to a healthy relationship. But, as she started to understand why Toko acts the way she does, Fumiko stopped taking Toko's difficult behavior personally. She often discourages Toko from being creepy around Byakuya and tells her not to let him control her. In a way, Fumiko is kind of a mediator trying to stop Toko and Byakuya from abusing each other.

Look, I know realistically Byakuya probably won't be able to be in a healthy relationship, but he's the smart anime guy with glasses so I have a crush on him. As such, there must be some shipping done between Fumiko and Byakuya. They get along surprisingly well, considering they're polar opposites. It's mostly because Fumiko is often quietly studying in the library, and Byakuya also happens to hang out at the library, so he tolerates her presence. As the story goes on, Byakuya slowly starts to realise that Fumiko isn't as stupid as he first thought she was: she figured out that Hifumi must've moved himself during trial 3 and that he was working with Celestia, and she often takes precations to make sure she won't find herself in a situation where she can be murdered. He also respects that Fumiko tries to keep Toko away from him. After trial 4, Byakuya asks Fumiko to teach him about emotions, as she's the most emotion-oriented person in the group. In the bad ending, Fumiko is the only person Byakuya has children with, and they have... a lot of children. After the killing game is over, Fumiko starts an orphanage for children affected by the end of the world, and asks Byakuya for funding. In return, he can choose a next successor from the children at the orphanage.

Due to the death of her father, Fumiko has an exceptionally deep relationship with her mother. As such, she was absolutely overjoyed when her mother was rescued by the Future Foundation. Her mother and her now work at Byakuya's (and/or Fumiko's) orphanage, teaching the children maths, language, and how to properly deal with their emotions. Fumiko is one of those people who really loves working with children.

In her introductory scene, Makoto is surprised at how gloomy and shy Toko is, considering she writes romance. And when he meets Fumiko, he's surprised that she's a joyful (although quite calm) person, considering she writes poetry about death. In Makoto's mind, their personalities seemed to have been swapped.

During the third trial, Celestia asks: ''Yasuhiro is a loser name! Do I look like a loser to you?!'' To which Fumiko replies, without hesitation: ''Yes.'' It'd make sense for Fumiko to be the queen of roasts, as her whole talent revolves around language and wordplay. She holds that power back from people, simply out of kindness and compassion for other people's self-esteem. However, she does roast Byakuya from time to time.
