I prefer this photo. I can't believe that you did that with fisheye lens , it looks so good. Everything is just perfect.

AMAZING!

I think it's not for long now I'll be able to resist getting a fisheye. Both the 10,5 Nikkor AFS and the 10-17 Tokina seem to do decently for IR. Let's see what PMA brings: If a D40/D60 sized, motorless body appears with the CMOS sensor and live view, I'll get one for IR. I want live view and contrast detect AF against IR focus shift... But I don't think I could afford a D90 dedicated for IR...
Problem is, that the tokina fish doesn't have an own motor... So I'll have to stick with the 'zoomless' nikkor. =/

you should also hope that nikon doesn't come up with a phase detect live-view af system, like Sony's

remind me where you got your camera converted. does AF fail with all lenses?

I don't care about live view that much and contrast detect AF (at least in d300) takes so much time, that I think I'd rather just shoot at f16.. but I also dream of a d90ir for more WB shift control and a better screen

I don't think they'll come up with that... They'll be using the D3/D300 technology in the next 1-1,5 years with all entry-level/prosumer models, like they always do.
Lifepixel did it, and they tuned the AF to the 18-70 kit lens. That lens works great with it, but not my others. The 70-300VR has unusable backfocus, dispite having a much better optics for IR.

with the last filter I used in my d70, I got very usable AF with every single lens I have (although I didn't like the effect the filter gave).. now with another filter, there's huge difference between lenses. I'll have to experiment some more, don't know if it was a matter of the filter type or thickness...
in camera AF fine-tune would be a bless for IR conversion, they really should build it in every camera.. it's probably just a matter of programming and it's their lenses that make problems anyway, regardless of the camera used
