Read this webcomic on Patreon !Did you know the origin of Valentine's Day?
As every christian holiday, it takes its origin from a pagan festival. In this case from the "Lupercalia": an ancient Roman festival (the latin word is actually plural, it took more than one day). It was a festival about fertility, it hasn't anything to do with the concept of romantic love that western culture created artificially during the Middle Ages mostly through Italian and ancient French literature.
It's not clear, though, when precisely Valentine's Day started to be the festival we know, about romantic love and stuff, but probably it was about like that even during XV century.
