...there is nothing warm in Mannante, nothing alive, he is all an ugly parody, an evil joke, squinting his pale glass-like eyes, icy as those of a dead fish, leading his nose through the cold morning haze, and it seems that if you cut his tightly stretched skin on the sickle of his ribs, not blood, but bitter cranberry juice will flow to the ground.

The dog grins, as if in mockery: if you want, check it out.
