Is it natural or manmade and how old is it? Just curious...

It is man made.

It was created ind the neolithic era, which was about 3,300 BC. And it is the largest dolmen in Denmark

Yes I have, I live somewhat close by it. But I have not visited it yet, but I have seen some of the artifacts from the graves at the National Museum in Denmark.

Wow! you should check it out. have you heard about the seeress they found at Fyrkat? And is there really an Iron Age grave of a priestess on Fyn island?

I've never been there (never been outside the States except for to the Bahamas) but i've been thinking about going to Solvang in a few weeks. It's a Danish themed town and yesterday I ate aebleskiver and medisterpolse for breakfast!

I will, but there are so many hill graves from the iron age and viking age in my area. The biggest tourist attraction is the vikings, they lived at the exact places where Aarhus lies right now, so we still have the names of some of the streets that are about 1000 years old.

Fyrkat is known for the ring borg, and I have seen the staff of the vΓΆlva (seeress/priestess), her grave is very famous because there are so few berials from that time, they normally burned the bodies.

Well it is not impossible. Fyn has had a lot of activities throu the ages. And I think they had their own traibes and kings back before all the islands became Denmark.

oh yeah I have heard about that city. There have been a documentary of it. Is it not there where the ancestrial folk of danish immegrants live?
actually that is danish dishes, but we never ever eat them together.
Γ¦bleskiver is something we eat when it is winter and mostly in the christmas month. And the same with medister, I only have it on christmas eve with my inlaws. but some people eat medister all year and that is normal, but mostly as dinner or lunch

You should deffenetly try and come to Scandinavia if you are interested i the viking age

With the show in mind I would recommend Norway, especially Odda vally. And of course Gotland in Sweden, they have the oldest city wall in northern Europe. Denmark has little to offer in scenery. But of course we have our museums, the biggest in Copenhagen, and the Moesgaard thathas a lot from the iron age to the viking age and middle ages.

I have seen the Grauballe man. He is in the Moesgaard museum, it's located not far from where I live. They are making a new Moesgaard museum where you kan get to see him from every angle.
I have not gotten the chance to see the Tollund man, but I have read a lot of him

Wow!

I wish I could go to see them... have you seen the Huldremose woman or the Haraldskaer woman?

ThoughtMemory In reply to mlpfan1982 [2014-07-11 17:32:03 +0000 UTC]

I have seen the Huldremose woman and the stuff there were laid with her in the bog. But dronning Gunhild (Haraldskær woman) is one I haven't had the opportunity to see.

If you have en interest in bog bodies the Danish National museum in Copenhagen woul be just the thing. They also have the Egtved girl and a ton of other things from that era.

This is from the national museums web site on the Huldremose woman, if you haven't seen it

cool Β  but i don't live in Denmark. i live in America. But it is cool to see how the people lived in those days. The only Germanic blood in me that my family and I know of right now is English, maybe Dutch, and some German. I hope I've got some Nordic blood because when it comes to the Scandinavian languages, people, history, and culture, I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!! and i'd love to have some Viking ancestors

ThoughtMemory In reply to mlpfan1982 [2014-08-06 08:04:10 +0000 UTC]

If there is some English in you then it is possible that you have some viking ancestry. Under the Danelaw there were danish settlements in England, and not to forget that norwegian vikings settled in ireland. I once saw a documentary on the viking gene in England, and that showed that in some areas there where around 70 % inherited from Scandinavia. So it is not impossible that have some in you Β
I have mostly just danish roots, with some norwegian here and there, but back in the 14 century there are some german low nobility.
Personally I think that swedish and norwegian sound a lot better than danish, is not as smooth in pronunciation as the others Β
Ás one who have natural blond hair and blue eyes, this is normally what we in Denmark call a viking gene, I don't know if it's true, but that's what people say.
Hehe once when I was in Copenhagen, I sat next to a somewhat older american couple and they where calling home, when the man was asked how Denmark was he bursted out "There are blonds everywhere! Blonds here and there, all over the place!"

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! is it also possible that i might have some Icelandic ancestors?

ThoughtMemory In reply to mlpfan1982 [2014-08-21 05:14:56 +0000 UTC]

Well it is not impossible, but it is not to know. I have not studiet how the immigration from Iceland to America have been. But maybe you could have some greagreat cousins over there.

f.eks. I have just met a girl who I share a great x8 grandfarther with. So it is not that much family but we do share the lastname of this ancister.Β

I know, but you are never responsible for your ancisters misdeeds.
And think about how many that may be in family with him. He lived for 2000 years ago and had properly alot of illigitimet children.

But I see that it isn't the best person to be related to.

you're right.

i'm also a descendant of james harrod, who founded the first permanent settlement in kentucky and he disappeared in 1792 and he was friends with daniel boone
i think james is one of my first cousins but i could be wrong. im sad that there arent any portrait paintings or statues or likenesses of him

That is really some family you have. It's cool that you know so much of your ancitory. My mother is just getting started on our familytree. And there just farmers and sailers, nothing of great significans.

I only know of one painting of a really wealthy family menber and her husbands from the 1590's. And that is the only likeness theres is, that I know of, before the photography was invented. And to be honest, the painting looks a lot like everyone did back then.Β

Actually I don't know very much about my ancestors right now.

Speaking of portraits, the portrait paintings from the mid 17 to late 18th centuries were actually highly idealized from what the person actually looked like so what we see in the portraits is not what the person looked like in real life. But I've been thinking about bringing that style back and my favorite paintings to model my own subjects after are by Vermeer and Elisabeth VigΓ©e Lebrun I think I might draw people in their style but in a modern setting. The only idea I've got so far is "Children Playing a Video Game".

I like how you've shot (/edited) the picture black and white, it suits the picture better and makes it more "realistic", as the picture is older than it seems (which really gives off an good effect!), wonderful shot!!
