Description
Long considered a good omen, this large ungulate is the result of island gigantism that has affected, after thousands of years of evolution, the Flaaffy remained on the island of Cianwood after it separated from the mainland: the lack of natural predators has meant that these sheep grew dramatically, allowing the hooves become progressively more advanced paws.
It lost the thick wool that was peculiar to its ancestors, with some remaining only in the most impressive female specimens like a mane: the one with the biggest mane is destined to become the matriarch of the herd. Once there was the legend that the matriarch would have to pay for hubris of his ancestors and that the growth of mane and horns symbolize his transformation into a terrible dragon, called Mega-Ampharos.
The tuft of hair on the tip of the tail is characterized by a particularly intense bioluminescence, which allows Ampharos to find the herd during the night: the study of this particular hair led to the introduction of optic fibers in Johto.
