Description    In this picture we continue our coverage of the Ancyloceratine superfamily Turrilitoidea this time we cover the family Anisoceratidae. This family is derived from the earlier mess that was the Hamitidae though exactly how is not nearly as clear as the previous two families I've drawn. They were a moderately successful group that lived from the lower Albian to the upper Turonian (113.0 to 88 million years ago). There appears to have been a total of three morphotypes illustrated in the groups. One was hook shaped seen in such genera like (Tarrantites), the second was an uncoiled shell that leaned to one side illustrated in such genera like (Phlycticrioceras), and the third would be these sorta elongated paperclip like forms like the heavily spiked (Anisoceras). Some have wondered what these weird shells were for Ancyloceratine were for and numerous hypothesis have been proposed, from benthic lifestyles to passive floating, to hanging onto seaweed. It seems likely species of the group did all of those and more.
