Relationships
~Mother: Lisa Celine Thompson [nee Costa]
~How does the character feel about her?: Lisa is the most important person in Jesse’s life. No matter what, she’s always been there for him and they’re incredibly close. They get along incredibly well and Jesse always wants to make her proud
~Father: Hermes
~How does the character feel about him?: Jesse’s feelings toward Hermes are very mixed. He doesn’t consider him a father figure at all, because Hunter was always his father figure. On top of that, Jesse partly blames his rebellious streak and stealing on Hermes. He knows Hermes was one of his mom’s first loves but he can’t help but feel a bit of bitterness toward him. However, he does thank Hermes for being part of the reason he’s so good at business and track.
~Step-Parent: Hunter Kenneth Thompson
~How does the character feel about them?: Jesse’s very close with his step-father. They’ve spent a lot of time together since Jesse was little, whether it be fishing, playing football, working on math homework, or just watching TV. Jesse trusts Hunter’s judgment and feels like he can tell him anything.
~Siblings: Kory Abigail Thompson (18), Monica Marie Thompson (10)
~How does the character feel about them?: Jesse adores Kory. Even though 8 of 44 they’re step-siblings, they’re very close. Jesse and Kory tell each other everything, from little things to big things. Jesse trusts her and loves her with all his heart. Jesse loves Monica and thinks she’s really funny even if she can be a bit of a brat sometimes.
~Friends (outside of camp): Gunner Smith, Betty Conner, Abraham Stewart, Regina Ellis
~Friends (camp): Trent Baker, Marcie Bouchard, Liam Trow, Yvette Desroches, Dillon Martel, Sunny Washington, Jean Cordova, Myra Harris, Heath Hudson, Luca Martin, Andie Clark, Elenore Tobberman, Ivy Seeley, Johnny Hayes
~Enemies: Derek Johnson, Tanner Johnson, Andre White
~Significant Other: Selena Aiko
~Past Relationships: Miles Wayne, Haruka Masaomi
~Pets: Jesse’s family has two dogs, a cat, a pig, and a horse. Jesse has a bulldog, named Jack Sparrow, and the family has a Rottweiler, named Watson. The pig, Winchester, belongs to Monica. The horse, Monty, belongs to Kory. The cat is named Buffy.
Battle
~Weapon: spiked gauntlets
~Style: hand-to-hand combat
~Strengths: strong, uses his size to his advantage, powerful, good defense, high stamina
~Weaknesses: hesitant, indecisive in battle, not incredibly agile, slow reaction time, lacks focus in battle, falls for feign attacks
~Abilities: Because his father is Hermes, Jesse has incredible pick-pocketing and lock-picking abilities. However, he rarely puts these abilities to use. He can also give credit to Hermes for excelling in foot-racing; it really helps him out on the track team.
~Fatal Flaw: Gullible/Thoughtless – Jesse is slow to pick things up and slow to react. He falls for things easily and doesn’t think about the reality of things. His gullibility can get him into bad situations.
Background
~Biography:
Lisa Thompson was just barely twenty years old when she attracted the attention of Hermes. She was in college, a smart young woman, with a kind soul and a heart of gold. She had a bit of a wild streak; a streak that Hermes found alluring. Soon enough, Lisa was pregnant with Hermes’ child.
Despite the wishes of her parents, Lisa dropped out of college to raise her son. She was disappointed to discover Hermes would not be raising him with her. She begged him to stay but he told her the truth. He was a god. Lisa didn’t believe him at first, but he convinced her before he left. With that information, Lisa forced herself to move on quickly.
Dropping Jesse off at day care one day, Lisa met another parent dropping off his daughter. Hunter Thompson was his name. After a few more run-ins with Hunter, Lisa discovered he was a singled parent as well. They ended up going out to lunch a few weeks later. They started to get serious and after a year of dating, they moved in together. Lisa’s parents were scrutinizing as ever and Lisa really wanted a fresh start where people wouldn’t look at her like she was some slut. So, after she decided it seemed she and Hunter were very serious and they were going to last, she suggested they move. Hunter took a little bit of convincing, but he eventually agreed to it. They moved to Detroit, Alabama, an incredibly small town where Hunter once grew up.
To ease the judgment of Lisa’s parents, Hunter proposed shortly after they had moved and settled in to their new home. Less than a year later, Lisa was walking down the aisle. The Thompson family (Jesse kept the last name Costa but Lisa took Hunter’s name) was very family-oriented. Jesse and his step-sister, Kory, were raised on good morals and virtues. Hunter grew up religious, as did Lisa. Though Lisa strayed from her Christian roots a bit, Hunter never wavered. He insisted the family go to church every weekend, leading Jesse to be a very religious boy.
Jesse got along very well with his step-sister, Kory. They acted like siblings, playing together and getting into their occasional fights. Jesse was seven and Kory was eight when Lisa gave birth to their sister, Monica. They both adored their baby sister.
As Jesse grew up, the blood of his father started to show. He started to hang out with a rough crowd. While he didn’t do everything they did, they were pretty good at pressuring him into things. They eventually got him into smoking, though he didn’t like it much. They discovered he had a talent for pickpocketing and picking locks. Jesse stole a pocket watch off an elderly neighbor and that was his last mistake. He was caught by the town sheriff and fessed up to everything. His parents had to pay a huge fine and Jesse spent the whole summer working to pay them back.
His fourteenth year was supposed to be a new start for Jesse. He promised he’d shape up and be a better person. He didn’t know how new it was going to be. Towards the middle of the school year, he had his first encounter with a monster. He escaped with a few cuts and bruises and an unbelievable story. Lisa knew a half-blood’s scent got stronger when they knew what they were, so she didn’t tell him what he was. However, when his second encounter with a monster came near the end of the school year, Lisa confessed. That summer Lisa drove Jesse to Camp Half-Blood for his first summer. He was nervous with only a small trunk of clothes and things he liked.
Camp proved to be a huge stress reliever for Jesse. He could be with people he loved – since he made many good friends – but he didn’t have to worry about being another mouth for his family to feed or another body to clothe.
