Background
~Put a brief overview of their story:
At nineteen years old, Amal Qazi was being pressured by her parents to find a husband or they would find one for her. They had a man nine years older than her named Dakshesh Khandaar picked out for her if she didn’t find a husband by the time she turned twenty. Dakshesh was far more wealthy than she had ever been in her life and handsome and charming in his own way. But, Amal was in a secret relationship that was ultimately doomed. She met Hephaestus in a junk yard when trying to find parts for something she was inventing. He was burly and crude and not at all handsome but Amal fell for him fast.

It wasn’t long before Amal was pregnant with Hephaestus’ child. She begged Hephaestus to stay, fearing what her parents would do if the found out she was pregnant. He told her the truth and left shortly after. Pregnant, unmarried, and young, Amal felt completely lost. She considered abortion but in the end, she told her parents. They were furious and told her she had to give up the baby once it was born. Her father managed an agreement with Dakshesh’s father and Amal was forced into an arranged marriage with him. The world would think Dakshesh was the baby’s father.

However, when Amal’s baby was born, she gave him her surname rather than her new husbands. He was on a business trip when she gave birth and she couldn’t bear to give her son a false name. She named him Anwar Mohammad Qazi. To her surprise, Dakshesh was not furious when he found out she’d given Anwar her surname.

Dakshesh and Amal’s marriage never had any love in it. Amal suspected Dakshesh often slept with other women because she refused to but she didn’t really mind. Dakshesh was a good father to Anwar. He respected both Amal and Anwar and held some love for Anwar. He was a bright young boy with a knack for science.

Anwar grew up uncomfortable in his own body. He often envied girls for reasons he wasn’t quite sure. He lacked confidence in his body and would have dreams he was actually a girl. He did his best to ignore it even though looking in the mirror made him feel sick.

When Anwar was fifteen, he met the hunters of artemis when he was out exploring. He learned that there was a girl there who was born a boy and Anwar realized that’s what he was. He told his mom almost immediately and shut him down. Anwar didn’t let this discourage her. She started using female pronouns when she thought about and talked herself. She researched names and decided a new name: Azra Mehreen. She chose Azra because she hoped to join the hunters in the future. Azra means “maiden” and she felt it was a symbol of her loyalty to Artemis and the hunters. Mehreen was chosen because she knew her mother loved the name. She bought girls’ clothes behind her parents’ backs and she felt more comfortable with herself. Once she’d decided a name and had a significant stash of clothes, Azra came out to her mom and Dakshesh.

Amal asked her to stop, telling her that she was only going to get herself hurt if she acted that way. Dakshesh said if you were born a boy, you were a boy. Azra insisted she was a girl for the next several months and even wore female clothes at times. She was forced to go change and Dakshesh and her mom refused to use her new name and pronouns. Amal seemed mostly upset by Azra’s actions but Dakshesh was angry. He worried what Azra would do to his reputation and often put her down for acting the way she did. After over a year of tolerating Dakshesh and Amal, Azra contacted the hunters and decided to finally join them. They welcomed her warmly.

After about a month with the hunters, Azra was claimed by Hephaestus. She wrote her mother to tell her about it but never received a response. During her time with the hunters, she wrote her mother numerous times and received very few replies. Azra tried not to let it hurt her but it did.
After almost twelve years with the hunters, Azra got a letter from home saying her mother was very sick. She came home looking more feminine than her mother had ever seen. When Amal saw Azra, she cried, both of happiness to see Azra and of sadness for losing her son. Amal died three days after Azra arrived. Dakshesh blamed it on Azra, saying she’d brought a curse on her mother when she started shaming the family. Azra left and never came back.

A few years after her mother’s death, Azra started hormone therapy and recently she got gender reassignment surgery. She’s happier with herself than she’s ever been before. She tries to keep an optimistic outlook on life just as she always has and feels more comfortable in her current position than she ever has in the past.
