Description
Immediately after the Battle of Cannae, the Carthaginian government exploited the confusion in Rome and managed to send supplies to Hannibal. This included more men, ballistas and many other weapons. With a large enough army, Hannibal went to Rome and began a siege. Many southern cities seeing the definite fall of Rome signed an alliance with Hannibal so that they are not attacked. A few months would pass before Rome would fall and the city was sacked. The confusion that ravaged the republic soon after caused most cities to seek peace with Hannibal. Hannibal was capable of signing peace with the Roman senate which saw the destruction of the republic.
The Treaty of Ostia saw the annexation of south Italy and Rome's Gallic and Iberian territories. The rest of Roman Italy was split between newly created citystates and the Gallic tribes of the Po Valley. Roman territories in the Balkans were seceded to Macedon in order for Macedon and Carthage to form an alliance against the Greek City States. The Roman City States soon became economically and militarily dependant on Carthage and thus were forced to keep the Carthaginian Suffet happy by now getting too powerful and remaining loyal.
