I would be interested in seeing what you could do with Null, whom was upgraded to big bad guy by the end of the series.

They were, Golani was the Spirit of Jeruselum. And later fought against Null, who was suggested that he was actually the Devil. The series didn't last much further than that, but the writer was a fervent Atheist with many strange ideas. Golani, Al'Fala, and Katmandu were the embodiments of their religion sustained by the beliefs of the faithful.

That's right. But I read that the writer was planning to pit Golani against Null. Will see if I can find that link again.
