Reaper Pirate Ship

Info provided by “Conan Parsu”
The Scorpia Military Solutions Isurus Class Carrier is based on the pre-Cylon war Cormorant Class Gunstar that was used by the Scorpia Military. There were rumours that this design was to be used by the Colonial Fleet originally, but the project was cancelled due to some issues over construction rights, since these ships can only be purchased from shipyard owned by Scorpia Military Solutions.

"Isurus class Light Carrier – Based heavily on the Scorpion Cormorant Cruiser, the Isurus is intended to be a light carrier by both mission and design. Built in Scorpion shipyards to serve any CDF interested, the Isurus is armed in a slightly limited manner for such a large ship primarily so it can be sold to private concerns as well. This was a deliberate move on the manufacturer’s part, as it maximized profits in an era when many organizations were being openly permitted to purchase what was essentially a medium weight warship with small craft capabilities. While not fitted with large fields of point defense, the dozen single barrelled medium weight MKEW turrets served a dual purpose by allowing the ship to fire both flak and antiship rounds as required. While no match for a Cylon Basestar, the less common single disk Light Basestars could be taken on by 3-5 of these ships, and in a one on one battle an auxiliary cruiser didn’t stand a chance. The ship only had half a dozen launch bays for small craft, but these were typically used by the ships strike, attack, and shuttle complement, while its fighters were simply, hoisted to the main launch and recovery deck and instead flown out in a more conventional manner. The ships typical complement was about 40 light fighters or Vipers, 20 heavy fighters or Raptors, and 6-8 small or four large shuttles such as the common Argos type, but these numbers could be nearly doubled with a bit of work and some cramped service and pilot’s decks."

Also, there was an upgraded variant made too...

"Isurus class Battle Carrier – The Battle Carrier conversion was not actually a legal modification initially, though several CDF forces improved their ships in a similar manner. The first such conversion was spotted towards the middle of the 1CW, when the Reaper, a pirate modified Isurus was discovered active in the Leonean region. Leonis requested assistance from the Colonial Fleet, and a joint task group was dispatched to shut the Reaper down. The task force eventually ran the carrier to the ground, only to have to call in further aid when the Isurus turned out to be far more heavily armed than they had first expected. In the end Colonial Marines boarded and captured the ship, and her entire crew was spaced as pirates. (The standard Leonean procedure, as piracy is both a capital crime and an expeditable offense.) Examination of their ship showed that all turrets had been exchanged for twin-mount MKEW models using long breech specifications, and that additional turrets had been added to improve forward coverage. Four traversable LASM launchers had also been added to the flanks, the ships armor had been enhanced, it structure was heavily reinforced, and its small craft bays reconfigured to dramatically increase small craft carriage, cargo and munitions storage. All in all what had been a light carrier was now a combined medium carrier super heavy cruiser! An impressive ship, Leonis pressed it into service and used it to convert their other Isurus class ships to a similar configuration. The single biggest drawback was that the ships power plant and engines had not been similarly enhanced, and neither had its RCS clusters. This resulted in a slow, somewhat ungainly ship that took some time to spin up its FTL drive, especially when other systems were in use and drawing power. The Leonean conversions upgraded the power plants, real space and FTL drives, and the RCS units, solving many of these problems with ease. The only weapons change they made was to remove the four LASM turrets and replace them with the standard 28 tube launchers fitted out on the U (Unity) class ships. The new ship could carry 80 light fighters, 40 heavy fighters, 32 small shuttles, and half a dozen Argos type logistics shuttles."
