"Hey Gunther, I appreciate you seeing me." Freddy Lynch says apprehensively.
"You arrived on my doorstep, I'm being polite." Gunther rumbles, "And I'm retired."
"Ya, I heard you became a teacher." Freddy comments.
"Professor." Gunther says, enunciating the word; "English Professor. And I'm still retired from the life."
Sighing heavily; "I need you Gunther. I'll double whatever you're making." Freddy offers.
"I'm retired." Gunther says yet again; "Besides, you have your younger sibling making a name for himself. You don't need me, I am retired Alfred." Gunther tells him, his gravely voice becoming more menacing.
"Um, everyone calls me 'Freddy'." Freddy responds automatically; "I don't need you for that. I need you to be in charge of my security, to be my bodyguard."
"I'm retired Alfred." Gunther says adamantly; "I've paid my dues. In blood. A lot of it, including my own as you well know. I've paid the piper, dispatched my enemies and my demons, and moved on. There isn't a single thing that you could possibly say to convince me otherwise."
"Mr. Simian is dead." Freddy informs him with a quiet voice.
A full minute of complete silence goes by before Gunther finally says; "I need a few days to clear my schedule."
"Thanks Gunther, I really appreciate this." Freddy exclaims; elated that his old acquaintance has accepted his offer.
"I was almost eligible for tenure too." Gunther grumbles; "And I'm really going to miss the sorority girls!"
