The visual centerpiece of Toast of the Town is crammed into the back of the file: the handout map of Trostig. The path from the Illustrator master to the Photoshop final was a long and winding one, and I kept snapshots of many a road-less-traveled. Here are two of the alternates. The top one is deeply wrong for the module: it's too bright, energetic, green, cheerful. It's very pretty, but in an "advertising a modern golf-course" way, not "handout for an adventure full of kidnapping and murder" way. The bottom is an overcompensating response to just that sort of thing: it's grim and muddy in a way that says "who fed the baby chili?" But they're both Trostig, and so (along with all the other rejected styles) they still have my affection. The final module (including the final map) is available free.
