📌 Just to remember that English is not my first language, if you find any really grotesque mistakes, let me know. But I hope the text is clear enough for everyone to understand and that everything makes sense.
Background was made using AI.
The rest of the night passed without any disturbances. The next day, after a quick breakfast, the trio mounted their horses early in the morning and set off on their journey. The sound of their horses' hooves echoed through the forest as they made their way through the trees.
Suddenly, Aerin heard a rustling in the bushes and asked if the others heard it too.
Elurin nodded. "They had been following us since the stream the day before."
Aerin was shocked. "And when were you going to tell me this?"
"Well, we didn't want to alarm you," Elurin replied with a hint of amusement in his voice.
"I can handle myself," Aerin replied in a sharp tone.
Galadel's eyes flicked to Aerin, "These are just Leafwhiskers," he said. "They're harmless creatures, and as long as we don't provoke them, they won't bother us."
Aerin huffed but nodded. "I'm not a child! Don't keep anything from me again."
Elurin sighed heavily, his eyes tired. "We didn't want to worry you unnecessarily," he said.
Aerin scowled, but knew they had a point. Still, it rankled her that they had kept this from her. "Fine," she muttered, "but if anything happens, I'm blaming you two."
As they continued on their journey, the girl couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. She kept her hand close to her dagger, ready to defend herself at the next moment.
Finally, after what felt like hours, they emerged from the forest, putting its shadowy trees behind them, and into the bright sunlight.
The trees now were scattered and the ground was mostly covered in grass with patches of wildflowers here and there. The trio spotted a village not too far away and rode towards it.
The gate was made of dark wood, with intricate carvings of leaves and vines snaking up to the posts. It was closed, but judging by the noises, it looked like a small village with a lot of activity.
Suddenly a fey emerged from the trees at the edge of the forest. He was clearly in a state of agitation. A peculiar character with pointed ears and a rough, green skin that resembled tree bark. His eyes were an almost fluorescent yellow. He wore a dark purple tunic, tied together with a leather cord and on his head was a cone-shaped hat. His teeth were sharp and pointy, and his hair was a tangle of branches and dry leaves that moved as if alive.
"Please, please help me," the fey's voice was high-pitched and slightly manic, with a hint of desperation. "My name is Erantheus, and I promise I mean you no harm. I simply require your assistance. I need someone strong enough to help me lift my cart out of a ditch a few miles away. And I need a place to stay for the night. Sariel is reluctant to assist me."
At first, Aerin was taken aback by the sudden appearance of this strange fey, and Galadel and Elurin were equally skeptical.
"Please," the fey implored. "I understand that you do not know me, but I assure you, I mean no harm. Will you help me?"
Aerin, though still wary, felt a twinge of sympathy for the fey. "We don't know you," she said hesitantly. "But we'll help you with your cart. As for this guy Sariel, we can try to convince him to help you."
Galadel and Elurin eventually nodded in agreement. "We'll help," Galadel said. "But we'll need more information about Sariel and the situation before we can make any promises."
The fey nodded gratefully. "Thank you, thank you," he said. "Sariel lives on the outskirts of the village, near the river. Please, if you can convince him to help me, I will be forever in your debt."
With that, they dismounted their horses, leading them by the reins as they followed Erantheus on foot to where his cart was stuck in a ditch a few miles away.
That looked like a side quest in a game. lol
