Like the orange soul this is my own personal head-canon, donβt take it as canon.
I think the Kindness kid might have been the only other human who fell down that came close to befriending all the monsters he met, and besides Justice, was the only one to make it to Asgore. But unlike Justice who fought Asgore and lost, the Kindness soul offered the king his soul willingly after seeing how hopeless all the monsters are on his journey. He left his pan and apron behind and asked the guard to take him to the castle.
this one was especially difficult on the old king afterwards...

That's mostly a thing of the past now. Just like with Chara, when people were blindly defending them. I've seen a rise in people arguing that Asgore is a good guy, better than Toriel even, and that Chara was neither good, nor bad.
And it only took this fandom two years to realize this.

I personally think that for every human... They just gave up at some point and decided to give the monsters their souls. I believe that Asgore would not have such a hard time having to fight them if they were killers.

And they are mainly tears of regrets. He doesn't want this, but he isn't able to see a way out of this. At least this one leaves Asgore with clean hands on this one.

Could be a reason why Asgore destroys the Mercy option, which is a bit different than my head-canon for it but still works pretty good.

I've heard some say that he destroys the Mercy button because he doesn't want to be spared for what he's done.

The most likely explanation, which this here easily goes with.Β As well as my own personal headcanon that Yellow/Justice defeated Asgore but spared him upon hearing why the monsters were trapped and Asgore's story and decides to spare him, but Asgore out of desperation of everything kills him once it's offered, and feels a huge guilt because of it, which is why he destroys it at the start of the fight with Frisk, he doesn't want to do that again.
