Here's the story behind the picture:

“Carmen, I have a surprise for you!”

“Vance? What's up?” Carmen's ears picked up and swiveled to lock on the tall silver fox standing in the door to her room.

“Come with me to the barn and I'll show you!”

The pair exited the sprawling ranch house hidden in the desert. Vance explained “Well, since it is your sixteenth birthday, I thought I could give you something special...”

“What?! Vance how did you know!?!” Carmen's ears shot bolt-upright, her tail flared. “I never told anybody!”

“Carmen, the data net has a lot of facts about us that isn't rocket science to find...”

Carmen's ears reddened and collapsed. She had told him she was seventeen when she joined the gang.

“Aw, don't pout, here, I think you're going to like this, happy birthday!”

Vance grunted and pulled the weathered barn door back, revealing a battered old jeep. covered in dust, listing slightly on two flat tires.

Carmen blinked. “I, its a piece of junk... The paint looks like it has been through a sandblaster, the windshield is cracked, the headlights are gone, the seats look dangerous to sit in...”

Vance lightly put a hand on the jeep's fender. “She's a survivor, Carmen. Her heart is good, her frame is strong. She's been abused and discarded, but there is still worth in her. There's still lot of potential in her, if you just clean the dirt off.”

Carmen cocked one ear to the side. “I dunno, it looks like there's more than a wash job there, how do we know it will even run?”

“I actually drove her in here. She needs a tune up, that is true, but it is nothing we can't handle.”

“We?! What are you talking about Vance? I'm no mechanic!”

“Carmen.” Vance turned and looked directly into her eyes. “sometimes, the only people we can rely on is ourselves. You will learn some skills here that could get you out of a jam in the future, with just a few tools.”

“But”

“You are special, Carmen. I know you can do this. Besides, jeeps are a ton of fun!”

Carmen felt the blood rushing to her face. Her ears collapsed. “Don't start purring like a little kitten! He'll think you're just a silly little girl with a crush!” she thought to herself.

Vance smiled, it was all he could do to keep his tail from wagging. “I think I'm finally getting through to her! Carmen there's so much more to you than that little girl I found in the street last year. You have so much potential! Just try to live!” he thought.

“When you work for something and it comes true, that makes it all the more worthwhile!”
