I'd rather the former so that if something goes wrong with a transaction and I have to refund somebody, I only have to refund one dollar.

There's this term called "prestige pricing", where you slap a higher price tag on a product for Branding sake like you see in Rolex watches, Nike Shoes, Apple computers, ect.
It's kinda silly to the average layman but there's clearly a market for people who want to say "I bought this pair of shoes for a gazillion dollars" simply for the bragging rights.
