Very gritty and foreboding, yet curious from where I'm sitting. All of the little details in the composition make you look even harder, and there is plenty to see. The feeling of movement exists at both the top and the bottom, yet emptiness in the center. The shadow conveys, possibly, an empty table with a drink or something on it. To me, it conveys a broken soul haunting his family's home; looking for memories that he never had.
