I really like your design and colours, but I find the girl's armour unrealistic to say the least... she could just as easily wear the same thing as the man, but shaped for a female.

Hmmm... I see what you mean. The style looks new to me, and the way the characters are outlined definitely give off a sharp, thin impression.
I like the expression of the characters, especially with their eyes. They seem like weary warriors, yet standing still, ready for the call of duty. One might say they are puppets to whoever manages their team. They seem to have a uniform of sorts, which must mean they belong to an organization.
