Species- Nix
Age: Eighty-three, but because his kind have long lifespans, he is the rough physical equivalent of a 34 year old human.
Birthplace: Somewhere in the North Sea
Appearance: In his true form he's a wild-looking man with a strong tail, sharpened teeth, untamed hair and webbed hands. In any other form, he shifts his features so that he looks less like a creature of the sea. As a human he has a neat beard and steely grey eyes, grey hairs mixed with brown. His ears are always slightly pointed. He wears elegant, simple clothing that is perpetually wet around the hems. His skin is slightly blue, more obviously when he's in the water. In water, his grey hairs shine silvery blue. As a nix he is also capable of shapeshifting into any imaginable form.
Backstory:
Henrik was born into a regal family of nixes that dwelled in the depths of the North Sea. They were a small group of their kind, and their important status meant nothing to most other clans- but they survived peacefully until fishing boats drove another rival clan into their territory. To save themselves, they scattered- Henrik has never been able to find his family and childhood friends again.
Henrik, using his shapeshifting ability, assimilated to human life and culture and rejected travelling by sea as soon as he found land. He was still scarred from the attack on his home, fearing a confrontation if he came across another of his kind again. He remained in Germany, learning the language, until air travel became a popular mode of transport- then, he decided to travel somewhere new.
He settled in Ireland, which was conveniently wet enough that nobody questioned the perpetually soaked hems of his clothing. He worked as a surgeon, having acquired an education in his years masquerading as human. He never set foot in saltwater again until one fateful day when he heard a banshee’s anguished cry.
Henrik, not being native to the area or its lore, had no clue what the wailing noise meant. Luckily for him, it was no omen- a young banshee had been caught underwater and was drowning before his eyes. For the first time in decades, Henrik assumed his nix form and saved the creature, nursing it back to full health in the safety of his home- it felt like the right thing to do. And the banshee never ended up leaving. The two of them became fast friends, bonding over their shared connection to the spiritual energy around them, and their rejection of their own kind’s customs. Henrik even gave the banshee a name, given that he hadn’t had one prior- Robbie.
All seemed to be well at last. At least until a group of assorted creatures barged into Henrik’s life, and pleaded with him to help on their quest to free a goddess from her eternal prison. All in a day’s work for him, it seems. His peaceful country life is just going to have to wait...
