I like it because if the way the background affects the mood and the hue of the colors but one question I must ask, as I cannot tell, is this a female drow or a male drow?

It's a female... specifically my half-Drow ranger from our old D&D campaign named Theris Wynguard.

Human. She had this whole story about how this drow female was left for near death after a battle on the surface but was healed and later taken advantage of by a human male who disappeared. The mother went back down to the Underworld and when she discovered she was pregnant, the midwife (who was a secret follower of Elistrae) disobeyed orders and didn't kill the child... she instead took it to the surface and left her on the steps of an Elven monastary.
