A rare species of dragon, the Gryphon is only known to inhabit the mountains of Kargan. Standing at 7 feet in height, 20+ feet in length and with wingspans reaching up to 40 feet, the Gryphon is a small-medium sized dragon. Rather unusual for a dragon, the Gryphon is covered in a fine layer of feathers which sit overtop the scales beneath. These feathers make the Gryphon more aerodynamic than its purely scaled cousins, and give it a reputation amongst most humans as a "rather pretty sight". Another unusual trait of the Gryphon is that, while it is still a carnivore, they are often far more docile than other draconic species and have been seen to co-exist with the humans of the region. While attacks on human and livestock are still an occurrence, they are so uncommon that most chalk it up to nothing more than bad luck.

Males tend to be larger than females, with more bright and colorful feathers as well as sacs on their throats which they inflate during mating season to attract potential mates.
