(Quick question: do you guys prefer if I upload my drawings in complete grayscale like I've mostly done so far, or as colour scans like this so they have that weird purple tint? I'm still trying to decide which looks better.)

My favourite character in Stargate SG-1, Sam Carter is a genius astrophysicist as well as a Lieutenant Colonel (as of season 9, which I'm watching at the moment) in the US Air Force. She's also a bit of a hero of mine, seeing as she's a physicist who also happens to be female. I'm a huge physics nerd, and it's what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I've occasionally been given a hard time for being the only girl in my class. It's always nice to see someone like you doing what you want to do, especially when you're in the minority.

If you'll permit me to rant for a while, the treatment of female characters in fiction is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. It always annoys me when a female character is mainly there to be the token girl, and it especially annoys me when her only purpose is to be the love interest. Sam is a great example of a female character who is not there just to be female; she's there because she's a genius and knows more about gate technology than anyone else on the planet. She has an important role to play in the team, and isn't just there because she has some connection to the male characters. Also, she's a girl who has succeeded in a predominantly male career path, but this isn't made a big deal of beyond the first few episodes. I think that's brilliant, given my own experiences as a girl wanting to go into physics. Then there's the fact that she's a bit of a socially awkward workaholic nerd, staying late at the SGC to work on her science projects rather than bothering with a social life, which helps to make her one of the few female characters that I can identify with. In short, there need to be more characters like Sam out there. Nerd girl power!
