Description I'm drawing Bambi stuff again. God help me
It's Gobo. Faline's brother. From the book. Yeah, he's not in the movie
I was making a Bambi comic thingy a looong time ago, and I'm thinking about going back to it. But I'm gonna have to re-do everything, because what I have looks awful. And the english is all broken. So this is a bit of a warm up, I guess

If there was one downside with Disney when doing adaptations is their likeliness to remove potentially interesting characters from the sources.

True. But then again, the movie time restrain means they inevitably need to cut a lot of material when they are adapting books.
What they did to Frozen's original story, tho, is kind of unforgivable

Also in addition to my first reply, there was this Russian film adaptation(Bambi’s Childhood 1985) of Bambi which although it had this awkward part of having humans in place of deer, even it actually decided to feature Gobo in someway.
More it’s just even Walt himself who was behind removing Gobo.

I think the technical restraints of the time also might have played some part in it. Most of their movies were just over 1h long and that is already considered an amazing accomplishment for a animated film made in the 1930's/40's. Had they included Gobo's plot it would've stretched far beyond that and maybe made things too unfocused, which for a book isn't so bad, but a movie... As it stands, it's just Bambi's story. In the book, I would say they kind of share it, even if Bambi still is the main character.
I have heard of the Russian live-action adaptation, but never watched it. The fact that it's a bunch of people definetly seems... weird. Like, who are the hunters then, another kingdom or something? Bandits? Cossacks? Have you seen it yourself? Is it good?
I also never heard of that movie Holes. Stange. Freaking Disney movie with Sigourney Weaver and Shia LeBeouf???

No matter what? And this is coming from a guy who’s seen the films first, but I will never be convinced honestly. Cause I’m even aware of why Disney gets their “saccharine reputation” and why Bambi is seen as the poster child of their cloying image and “cutesy cuddlewy little baby critters” franchises everywhere(downright a laughing stock), cause of their cutesy stuff in the film like Bambi being “BIRD!” and ice skating as a fawn. And exactly how much merchandise do you see of adult Bambi? It’s probably even the reason they chose to do a midquel as opposed to adapting Bambi’s cause their kids merchandising has to be ‘cute’(but we get both age versions of Simba).
Heck even outside of kids films Disney still lives up to their reputation like how whimsical Gaurdians of the Galaxy turned out for s PG-13 Marvel film and that’s why people say it’s “overrated”.
I have the right to even say this cause Bambi was not sold to Disney it was sold to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer who intended a ‘philosophical approach’ but had failed experiments and one MGM worker suggested Disney but they didn’t know that Disney targets kids merchandising(especially when it was even before Snow White came out). So I don’t put any faith on whatever Disney does anymore. I would still follow them, but don’t put any faith in then what so ever cause they don’t just tone things down or make them different, they make them cutesy and whimsical. They’re clowns, but at least growing up with them, they’re like my clowns.
Strong statement I admit, but it’s true..

A philosophical approach with Bambi definetly sounds really interesting.
Who knows, someone could try to remake it one day, with a more adult approach. That would be awesome.
I usually watch most things Disney put out as they are generally entertaining, even if not in any way profound and just very commercial, as you said. Their only new product that I genuinely enjoy and would defend as good is Star Wars. The Last Jedi specifically, I really liked that movie. I like the Avengers stuff too, I think it's fun.
I'm kind of pissed off about the "Live Action remakes", though.
Sorry for taking so long to respond, I've been off from DA for a while now.

I did a typo when I said “as opposed to adapting Bambi’s” it was supposed to finish as “Bambi’s Children”(second book). Though there is a comic adaptation done by Dell Comics or something I believe.

Well, an hour and ten minutes does seem short for film standards, though I have heard WW2 had them cut off like 10-12 minutes. Also, Disney is rarely close to the sources either way. The only faithful Disney adaptation I know is Holes a majority of that is like a word for word straight translation to its book even featuring pretty much all the characters.
