Here is the flag of Appalachia, one of the many nations that were founded in the wake of the violent balkanization of the United States in the late 2010s. It is the direct successor state of the United States of America, although its territorial jurisdiction is greatly reduced and its government is totalitarian in nature. Appalachia was originally founded as a national redoubt for the U.S. government in the wake of the destruction of the nation's power grid.

After a nuclear strike destroyed much of Washington, D.C. in 2019, the Appalachian Redoubt's provisional government was hastily converted into a military junta, and the redoubt became its own nation, with its own flag.

The Appalachian flag itself was clearly designed to echo the "Stars & Stripes" of the Old Republic. The three stars represent the three constituent states of the nation: Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Western Virginia (the former U.S. State of West Virginia) is not included in this group, as it was forcibly annexed by Virginia in 2021 and is no longer an independent state.
