at [link] you can find calibration presets. Most of the time they work fine but in some cases indeed it is as you say an absolute disappointment. But I still love Lightroom soo much. The amount of control on your images and your library management is just so intuitive. I have a trail of captureNX2 which expires in 2 weeks. I gave it a try, but Lightroom feels just so much better to me.
But for this shot the lose of details in the shadow was just too bad. The most frustrating is that you can see the image getting worse during the rendering of the high-res image.
You use captureNX right?

Lol, it really isn't edited there. I can give you a correct explanation with physical theories. But when the amount of light is very high in areas the light bends over the small obstacles in front of its light surface.
