Description Edit: A bigger version as you guys wanted!

This one is from the same morning as my previous one. I stood up at 5:30.

I really like how the sun was illuminating the mist of the morning and the reed in the foreground caught my eye.
This picture was hard too expose as there was a major difference between the lightness of the foreground and the background.

When I uploaded this picture to my PC I imported it in Lightroom. I was very disappointed with the way LR interpreted this picture. It was incredibly dark and even in the camera correction menu I couldn't get it right. So what I did was importing the .NEF-file to CaptureNX and than I imported it in Lightroom again as a 16-bit .TIFF-file. Now I could get back the details I wanted by using the fill light slider. I also warmed the shot by almost 50K.

Difficult shot but you pulled it through really nicely brother! I love the highlights on the reed and the background is just a dream!

I totally abandoned Lightroom after just a couple of tries. Its interpretation of my shots is an absolute disappointment

at [link] you can find calibration presets. Most of the time they work fine but in some cases indeed it is as you say an absolute disappointment. But I still love Lightroom soo much. The amount of control on your images and your library management is just so intuitive. I have a trail of captureNX2 which expires in 2 weeks. I gave it a try, but Lightroom feels just so much better to me.

But for this shot the lose of details in the shadow was just too bad. The most frustrating is that you can see the image getting worse during the rendering of the high-res image.

You use captureNX right?

Yep, Capture NX
I know Lightroom can achieve amazing results (well, you always have to have an amazing picture to start with, no raw conversion program can achieve miracles and neither can photoshop and I know you know it, it's just that it sometimes seems so frustrating to read comments implying that a photo is good because someone has processed it in photoshop) but I didn't give it a chance after the first time I tried it. As I said it took me forever to make the shot look like my camera has captured it and I get so very bored after 5 mins of post production
Loads of thanks for the link, I'll definitely give it a try!
Rock on bro!

How come the sun is in full show in front of the tree? Looks like it has just been added in... Great shot though.

Lol, it really isn't edited there. I can give you a correct explanation with physical theories. But when the amount of light is very high in areas the light bends over the small obstacles in front of its light surface.

I see, I'll just take your word for it then.
