Description This is just a helpful tool to learn if you want to do a lot of the SAME things over and over and over to many images.

So it's kind of more of a process thing than an art thing, but believe me when I tell you this has saved my butt at Marvel many times haha.

I hope it helps someone!

I'll be away for a few days so I won't be around to answer questions people might have, but I'll respond when I get back! Take care guys!

I really like this tutorial!

it's usefull, colourfull, easy, and brought in a really nice context which makes you remember it way better ^^

do you think you can also place these commands into for instance, cropping an image on the sides?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

suzuran In reply to Daeron-Singollo [2011-04-17 03:59:54 +0000 UTC]

yes! I haven't done it in a long time, actually, but the way photoshop will do it is...

well..

If you ever opened up "Info" under window, then move your mouse over anywhere on the page, you can see that a few numbers pop up.

So let's say that you make a square and the selection to crop the image.. it'll remember the position on all four points on the square

So if your Square starts 100 pixels from the top and 100 pixels from the left...

It'll always start like that for your second image.

If by chance your images aren't all the same size, weird things will happen so that's where you have to be careful. Have to make sure everything will be cropped from exactly the same places on every picture!

I'm still trying to learn this automate batch. This time, I tried to reduce the pixels like in your tut, but I also failed. Please forgive my silly questions since I am a newbie.
What is that Temp that you created for?
How do you test (on the dummy image as you said) after setting the actions?
Your answers this time may help me succeed, thank you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

suzuran In reply to milbisous [2011-04-04 16:04:34 +0000 UTC]

Oh I just use temp for any tutorial actions to show you guys Because i remake the actions everytime whenever I show them in the tutorials, I don't wanna mess up my regular actions.

You just hit "play" on the action when you have an image that you want to test it with when you're done to see if it works properly.

milbisous In reply to suzuran [2011-04-04 18:53:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your response. Does the set that you name Temp, contain any photos you want to resize? I had created a folder with some photos I wanted to resize from 72 DPI to 300DPI and I named it reso300
Next, I clicked create folder, and named resize. Then I created action named reso300. I opened one photo, set image size to 300 (after unclicking resample) stopped the recording and did the import menu item to add the save/close as you've instructed. I did test by clicking on "play the action" on the action panel. Then I did the file>auomate>batch the photos in the reso300 folder I have created just for this test. Actions started doing their things. But in the end, only the first photo that I had open to do the image size (after all actions have been set)is of 300 resolution and the rest remains at 72
What did I do wrong? Thank you.

suzuran In reply to milbisous [2011-04-05 14:04:05 +0000 UTC]

No XD The set Temp just has the actions, nothing else.

So if your folder with your Action is called: RESIZE
And your action is called RESO300
And your folder is called um.. PHOTO, let's say...

Then your batch should look like this:

PLAY
----Set: RESIZE
----Action: RESO300

SOURCE: Folder

CHOOSE... something:something:something:PHOTO

But anyways, thanks for the tip. Makes me feel like the 1.blah blah Gig-sized PSCS5 stored in this little laptop of mine isn't just a waste of space! 8D

I hope you can help me. I want to do image size from 72 to 300. I had followed your tut, however the set box in my CS4 New Action window does not give me a choice of TEMP. It is only default actions. So how can I resize all photos from 72px to 300px? I have been doing...one by one
Thank you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

suzuran In reply to milbisous [2011-03-29 16:34:32 +0000 UTC]

ooh first let me get this straight, you want to upres your images? @_@ Make them from smaller to bigger? Aren't the images looking a little blurry after you do that? or is that ok for you?

TEMP is just the folder that I put my action in, cause the default action folder has 23840298098 actions, it's annoying to go through.

When you create your action, you can put it in any folder you want, just don't forget the name of it, and look for it there!

milbisous In reply to suzuran [2011-03-29 18:06:06 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your response. I was not clear in my previous question. What I had wanted to do is to increase the default resolution 72 to 300 in order to reduce the image size. I tried to use your tut to change one copy and then make an action to do the automate batch, but I just could not do it. I'd appreciate it so much if you or somebody could help me. Thank you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

suzuran In reply to milbisous [2011-03-30 00:46:05 +0000 UTC]

Increasing the resolution won't reduce the image size though XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

milbisous In reply to suzuran [2011-03-30 03:22:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh, so what do you call it? Because at 72 resolution, the size is humongous; and by going up to 300DPI, whatever is then reduced tremendously. So what is that? I am not so PS literate

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

suzuran In reply to milbisous [2011-03-30 04:02:03 +0000 UTC]

OH I SEE.

You mean the actual image size Sorry my brain is tweaked to think the kilobytes, like MB, KB, etc XD

haha XD

Okay In your actions window, just make a new folder. Call it whatever you want, just remember to name the folder. This was the one I named "TEMP."

Now make a new action. Name it whatever you want, just remember what it is!

Open up your test image, and make sure to set your image size as this:

Pixel Dimensions
Width: Whatever you have it as
Height: Whatever you have it as

Document size
Width: Whatever you have it as
Height: Whatever you have it as
Resolution: 300 dpi

Scale Styles: Checked
Constrain Proportions: Checked
Resample Image: --- Keep reading

If you want to just mess with the document size, make the actual size of the images smaller when you print them out, then UN-CHECK Resample image.

If you want to make the pixel size bigger (not a good idea.. it'll make things blurry), but the image size smaller, then CHECK Resample image.

Then add in Save / Close like the tutorial says.

Try it on a test image to see if that's what you want

Then try to run the batch

I hope it works now~ Let me know if you have more questions!

milbisous In reply to suzuran [2011-03-31 03:06:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much for writing such a long tut, just for me. I knew about unchecking the resample box when increasing the DPI. I now understand where "Temp" came from hahaha, My problem remains re how to to automate batch ...200 photos. I followed your above instruction, and knew how to name my set, insert to add Save/close etc...but in the end, the DPI of the batch did not change I've tried, in vain, maybe 10 times with just a test batch of 4 images only.
By the way, after doing the save/close, I thnk you have to click the square to stop the recording. For without that step, when you do the File/automate/batch, you cannot find the action you set. I hope you understand what I mean.
I will fave this tut of yours today, so that I could try on this way of reducing the image size next time. I used to do it...one by one too. I hope I will have better luck with this tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
