Description
Continuing the trend of being the most exported western fighter, the F-16 has reached all across the human sphere of influence, and unsurprisingly this includes planet Tal. Reono is one of two operators of the F-16, the other being the Gold Ring (which operates mainly the derivative F-2) and along with the F-4 Phantom II, forms the backbone of the Reono Air Force.

The F/A-16C is a special order aircraft based on the F-16 Agile Eagle (which would be used in the F-2) which increased the size of the maneuver surfaces and added two additional hardpoints on the wings. The F/A-16C is upgraded with an advanced ground strike package and improved avionics for near ground operations. Another important upgrade is avionics from the EmbH group, allowing for the use of the Meteor AAM. It is also equipped with conformal fuel tanks, allowing for extended range and loitering times. It’s original variant saw service near the end of the First Border War, where it far outclassed anything Shigu operated. This led Shigu to start a modernization program, which included the purchase of MIG-29, JF-17, and eventually J-11.

The F-16E is the production version of the F-16XL and has been offered by General Dynamics as a budget equivalent to the F-15E or SU-30, it hasn’t seen market wide success like it s brethren. Reono originally intended to replace the F-105 and F-107 with the F-16E, but production was too slow and the order was cut down from 72 to 24. The F-16E proves it’s worth in the Second Border War where it served as a long range interdiction and SEAD aircraft.
