Description Shiny Form: sta.sh/01ny62vf54v8

Evolves From: www.deviantart.com/supersonicg…

Basis: Inspired by blacksmithing anvils and forges.

Original Version: None

Special Notes: *Tempered Steel - Raises Defense and Special Defense by one stage when hit by a Water-type move.

Signature Move: Firewall
Category: Self
Type: Fire
PP: 10
"User erects a massive wall of flames to block incoming attacks. 30% chance of inflicting burns upon direct contact. Water-type moves negate this move."
(Note: Move may fail if used successively.)

Battle Specs: So, right off the bat, the biggest notable difference between normal Avalugg and this heavy metal variant is that fancy new typing. The luxury of that sweet Steel-typing gives a hefty amount of resistances, which makes for the prefect compliment to its titanic Defense stat. On top of that, it still boasts its high Attack stat, and even has a bit more special bulk as well (though, at the cost of a small portion of its Defense)...though it's still slow as tar, so keep that in mind. It's abilities also got quite the overhaul. While Heavy Metal and Flash Fire are admittedly a bit situational, the real talk comes from its Tempered Steel ability, which takes its Water weakness and turns it into a slight advantage by bolstering both its defensive stats. A risky ability, to be sure, but can be very handy when your as big a bulky as this big lug.

In terms of moves, a lot of Avaluggs wider arsenal stays pretty much the same; Superpower, Body Press, Skull Bash, Crunch, Curse, Earthquake, etc. Of course, though, it subs out it's Ice-moves for some more type-appropriate moves, such as Iron head, Metal Claw, Iron Defense, Autotomize, and Gyro Ball for the Steel side, and Fire Fang, Afterburn, Flame Charge, Burn Up, and Flare Blitz for the Fire side. Plus, it also has the luxury of being able to learn Heavy Slam and Heat Crash, which can combo really nicely with its Heavy Metal ability. There's also one other move it's got that I'd like to talk about called Firewall! It's essentially a Fire-typed Protect that can burn opponents that make direct contact with it, and it's pretty popular with Fire-types, especially the slower, bulkier ones. The only catch is...Water-type moves will completely negate this move, so...use wisely.

I'll be honest, as someone who used vanilla Avalugg on his main X/Y team, the biggest thing holding Avalugg back is its typing; pure Ice is just...NOT good for a tank, and I feel like it wastes a lot of what Avalugg's potential COULD have been. That's why I made this in the a first place, as a way for this giant lug of a beast to live up to its true potential! Oh, but uh, one more thing...keep it far, FAR away from Ground-types...they don't play nice with that typing...just saying.

Artist's Notes: We're a bit overdue for talking about regional variants here, so why don't we start with this? I like said earlier, I really like Avalugg, but it just has so much missed potential, so it was nice to be able to bring this idea to life, while also throwing in another good Steel type into the roster! Plus, the anvil/forge aesthetic really works for it, I feel!

Anyways, that's all for now! As always, I hope you liked this, and I'll see you all next time! Take care! ^_^
