Description This is a photo of Andree-Anne taken in the summer. I was never quite satisfied with the image until *DyingNexus gave me an excellent tip on using the calculations method to change a color image to black and white. That was exactly the medicine that this photo needed.

this has such an appealing rough and tumble sexiness and i look at it, and it doesn't seem black and white. like, you mention it in the description, and i had to go back and was like "oh, hey, yeah, it is!" that's wild, and i like it it just seems so warm and alive, i think i just feel like it is colourful, though it isn't. potentially i'm insane, but i like it this way

hey Superkev,

This is an excellent image, I especially how the jeans look like. I think how you change the image into such a ton brings out the texture of the jeans and give it a strong feeling to the picture as a whole.

What is calculations method by the way?

calculations method lets you combine different layers in images to create a new layer. you get it from the image menu in photoshop. there's another comment on this photo that i used to explain which layers i combined in this photo.

would you say something that to her directly? because that's what you do when you make a comment like that in a public forum. she's likely reading your comment. most of my models read the comments on their photos. think about that the next time you start something with "no offense intended..."

reddhedds In reply to superkev [2004-11-30 12:45:38 +0000 UTC]

i do apologize
it's just that one never knows with digital photography. If I had met the girl, I wouldn't've said that because then she'd be standing right there in front of me and I wouldn't have to ask whether she was a he or a she, it would be quite evident. Apparently she's not my type, which is perfectly fine, in fact, I rejoice that there are so many women out there that are not my type. For instance, my sisters are not my type because they are my sisters no matter how beautiful they may be. Somebody's gonna marry them and have beautiful children with beautiful hearts, and that's what counts
I'm sure she's a wonderful person as well as a great model. And I do appreciate your photography style, but you've done somewhat comical stuff before so I didn't know to what extreme you might go. For all I knew, you coulda been having a fun time with a buddy that looked very feminine (I have loads of guys friends that I would think they were girls if they had breasts) and decided to play a practical joke on your watchers. So again, I'm sorry. An apology cannot make up for the sin committed against you and especially your model but I am truly sorry and it was an honest mistake and next time I will just keep my mouth shut.

This rawness and personality captured in this portrait .. is just .. wow .. errr .. wow

The lighting is exceptional, the hands, the presence, her stare .. its all so vivid and rushes upon your senses when you view it.
Feeling my eyes flicking all over trying to drink in every detail is exquisite.
Beautiful work hon.

Such a wonderful contrast to the earlier photo you've really shown the range of characters to this natural beauty. Here's she's the wild and unruly woman, oozing sexuality and mystery.

I love the tones whether it was your computer or your masterful lighting doesn't matter to me the result is wonderful.

Nice, I sometimes use the calculation method myself. I recently switched to using a Lightness channel method that I got from the Photoshop CS book for Digital Photographers. ( by Scott Kelby ) Definately worth the 40 bucks since everything pertains to finishing photos in PS.

Out of curiosity, what calculations did you end up doing? I'm a channel-mixer guy myself most of the time, but I've always wondered if there was good use for calculations that did better than the mixer.

superkev In reply to AlexWilson [2004-11-30 00:55:42 +0000 UTC]

i used the blue channels in overlay mode. the second one was at about 40% opacity i think, but if you want more contrast and texture, just increase the opacity. i'll never give up the channel mixer myself, but in gritty and textured images like this one, the calculations tool is pretty handy.
