Indeed, while we have lots of herons in this area, and i can see them daily, I also never saw one wading so deep in the water like this one...
Usually, they are standing at the edge of the water, or on a low branch or something...
This one was a surprise, to both of us, I bet

Thank you so much. I did quite some post-editing on this one all right - well, obvious of course, since it's a b&w version... I had been photographing plants just before, and messing with the white-balance 
Result: ugly red-brownish pic... 
One of the very scarse times that I love b&w 
by the way, question: does that dark spot on the right top edge bother you? would you edit that away? - I saw it only when the pic was uploaded already, and now I see it every time, of course
