Description This is a recreation of a painting I saw in a dream last month. It featured a ghostly white horse leaving a blue trail of water-like ripples. The legs and parts of the body were also part of those ripples, as if the horse left its presence on everything it touched. In front were more smoke like ripples. It's as though the white horse was charging ahead and purifying the dark smoke. The head was the brightest part, like a beacon of light. It was painted in a style very different than my own.

The dream itself was mostly mundane aside from a few unusual interactions. It took place in a department store. My siblings and I were trying out different board games, chocolate bars and magic sets that didn't exist in waking life. But one significant part that does stick out to me was the role of my father in the dream. He acted kind and patient throughout the entire dream. He even tried out some of the games himself. While this might also seem mundane to another person, every dream I've had featuring my father for the last 20 years has turned into a nightmare. We didn't have the most stable childhood growing up, and my dad had a big part in that and my subconscious enjoys reminding me, regardless if the dream is lucid or not.
I waking life, currently I'm in the process of trying to build more neutral or good memories with him to outnumber the bad memories and trying to let go of the past and its negative associations. I'm not sure if the horse ripples represents any of these parallels, but one can only speculate.

This is the first in my attempt to recreate art from dreams. Dreams have endless potential for growth, introspection, and creativity, and I've seen countless works of art (whether images or music) that have been so outside of my usual style in waking life, I think they're worth recreating and exploring. My goals for this are to step outside my comfort zone in style and grow a deeper appreciation for art in general. Currently, visual art doesn't quite reach that level of connectedness that music has for me, but if I draw from images literally pulled from my subconscious mind, I'm quite literally putting part of myself on the canvas. Whatever the case, it seems worthwhile to explore.
