I'm going to draw more girls this year.

This is Beatrice, Chahiron's friend, before he ate half her arm by accident. She never did get a dragon form.

A few higher ranked citizens (black-haired dragons) are matched up with a lower ranked (white-haired) dragon when they're around five or six. The two kids sign the contract themselves after being introduced, and this relationship lasts for life. It's a variation of the laotong relationship practiced in old Chinese culture. The requirements for matching are different, but the concept is the same- two kids are supposed to grow up together and be friends for life. Usually the two grow up separately, but visit frequently. The families of the two kids are joined as if the children were married.

Seth and Elixares also had this relationship. Usually they're supposed to go really well, and the vast majority do- it's just that there's a fairly high mortality rate amongst dragon kids. If someone makes it past nineteen, chances are, they'll live a very long life.
