XD I woo all of the ladies with my symbolism-interpreting mojo. But really, it's a neat addition. Was Emm ever considering a whatdoyoucallit? Life of the cloth? It doesn't seem like his kind of thing, but he's full of surprises. (I understand my dad came very close to joining the priesthood. If you knew him, you would be very, very surprised. But he didn't, and went into the army instead. And that's why I exist. The End.)

Sitting around poring over religious texts for hours would probably be an issue, as well... I dunno. He might enjoy missionary work? But even that kind of travelling involves sitting around for long periods. Even if he wanted to make convincing people that his religion was awesome a full-time job, there are some sizable roadblocks. I guess being a chef works out better. (lolspoiler)

Nah, that makes sense, too. I just didn't integrate my yammering about Emm's personality into my earlier comment 'cause it started looking too long. But yeah, constantly meeting new people and trying to sell them something (even a TOTALLY AWESOME YOU GUYS belief system) doesn't seem like it'd be Emm's cup of tea. He gives off more of that repressed-housewife, eases-tension-with-food vibe. ...Which is a weird fucking vibe for him to give off, I will admit.
But yeah, anyway. I could see him liking cooking. It involves a bit more movement that a lot of other indoor hobbies, it's practical, it's a statement of independence, in a way.... yeah.
Emm becoming a chef = spoiler? I don't know if it will actually turn up when you turn this into something (WHICH, DAMMIT, YOU BETTER) but if it does, I assume it will be a spoiler. You know. Him not dying horribly/getting arrested before getting hisself a career.

So it's more of a personal satisfaction thing, kind of like gaining a skill, than... I don't know what I'm saying. He does it for himself, because he enjoys it and enjoys doing it well, rather than because he thinks he has to or wants anyone else to enjoy it?

There are also the organizational bits to think of, if his responsibilities overlap with management. I can't really speak for careers based on something you're good at rather than something you're passionate about, though. It depends on what you want to get out of it, and how what you want changes over time, I suppose.
