The EASA X-02S Strike Wyvern ECR (Electronic Combat / Reconnaissance) is a carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft, a specialized version of the two-seat X-02S Strike Wyvern, devoted to Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) missions.
Design
The ECR's flight performance is similar to that of the X-02S. This attribute enables the ECR to perform escort jamming as well as the traditional standoff jamming mission (Radar jamming and deception). Able to accompany X-02R during all phases of an attack mission.
The ECR has more than 90% in common with the standard Strike Wyvern, sharing airframe, AESA radar and weapon systems, include an IRST sensor on top of the nose, an EOTS sensor below the nose, and upgraded landing gear. The aforementioned control programs include both fly-by-wire and power-by-wire systems to ensure redundancy. Most of the dedicated airborne electronic attack equipment is mounted on dorsal section and integrated pods under the main wings. Two external weapons stations remain free to provide for additional weapons, stealthy enclosed weapons, or jamming pods.
The tactical electronic warfare system (TEWS) integrates all countermeasures on the craft: radar warning receivers, radar jammer, radar, and chaff/flare dispensers are all tied to the TEWS to provide comprehensive defense against detection and tracking.
The ECR will also use the INCANS Interference Cancellation system that will allow voice communication while jamming enemy communications. In addition to the radar warning and jamming equipment, the ECR possesses a communications receiver and jamming system that will provide suppression and electronic attack against airborne communication threats. The X-0S ECR is the initial platform for the Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) which uses Active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology to focus jamming power exactly where needed. A single X-02S ECR can generate targeting tracks for hostile radio-frequency sources in real time. Utilizing ultra-fast data-links, the ECR could use its EW pods to accurately locate signal sources.
The basic airframe, however, proved versatile enough to produce a very capable strike fighter. While designed for electronic combat and reconnaissances, retains the air-to-air lethality of the X-02, and can defend itself against enemy aircraft.
