Hello there! Another one coming from ProjectComment and I am here to give you some constructive feedback on your artwork.

I agree to most of what my predecessor said about your piece. I like the overall composition of this artwork and how the colour tone is coherent with the mood of your piece.

The complexity of detail towards the centre also creates a nice focal point from top to bottom (and of course the natural suit shape does help with that) but I am somewhat unsure about your brushwork...

On the one hand, it doesn't feel off as you have used chunky blobs as texture throughout the piece which is perfect for facial structures but not so much for clothing. I think the way you painted the suit could have been smoother to distinguish texture materials from one another without adding too much detail to destroy the aforementioned focal point.

Furthermore, I really like how you established some of the facial features (especially the throat and forehead look incredibly realistic), except for his left cheek that has this odd, unworked dark stroke in it.

I - for one - thought I saw the ending portrait shot of the 1960 movie 'Psycho' as I first glanced at it but my memory wasn't entirely accurate of that shot. Still, I think it would pose as a nice reference image for you because I think his eyes are too much tilted upwards to create a comical exaggerated look. www.jasonbovberg.com/wp-conten…

That's about it from my end, I can't really spot any flaws on top of them. You have created a very nice portrait with well rendered anatomically parts and a good sense of detail to draw the eye.

i hope my feedback was helpful to you!

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely have to work on incorporating a variety of textures with my painting, I really just used the same brush setting for the whole piece and didn't feel like getting reference for the clothing texture and whatnot. I appreciate the compliments regarding the anatomy since I consider facial anatomy one of my stronger areas lol. I'll definitely consider your advice, it's super helpful since I'm still fairly new to the medium. Tysm!

Hi I'm from !  I really like this piece overall, especially the lighting and the color gradients!  Both work together very well to amplify the overall mood of this piece and to give rise to the sense of darkness that this has.  It's a very simple portrait, but it's almost like a character study all in one snapshot.  I particularly like the dark shadows about the face, which really amplify this gentleman's malicious scowl.  Personally, I think it looks a bit more like an evil Franz Kafka, but maybe that's just me?  Anyway, I really like the features of the face.  The high cheekbones and dark eyes really emphasize the expression:  they seem made for scowling almost!  There is a cruelty to the pout of the lips, something that defies all of existence.  The corners twitch almost in a smile as if this fellow is enjoying his hatred like a drug.  I like the parted hair, it somehow adds something to the overall character of the figure.  I'm not sure I can explain it, but it just seems very appropriate somehow.  THe suit is very well done, but simple, and I think the lapels could stand to be a bit more intricate.  Still, the pulled-down tie makes the fellow look disheveled, which is very fitting indeed.  Overall, I think everything here kind of goes together, to create the portrait of a young man feeding on his own disdain.  The vague light behind him only serves to emphasize his emotion, perhaps to his own detriment.  Alll-in-all, this looks really fantastic!  There's a lovely cohesion to it all, and I think the lighting and color gradients really work to give it this unsettling old-timey black-and-white photo feel.  Those eyes really do seem to bore right into me.... Excellent work!

OH MAN YES the monochrome is FANTASTIC for this! the aqua gives the grey an orangeish hue too, giving the illusion of a complementary palette, which is super cool!
I love the intensity of the man's stare, very piercing and full of emotion!
