Here's some a bit extra background on Stardust's (Night/Sand hybrid's) mom, Destiny, and i guess her father, though she never knew him - thankfully.

(tw for implied rape and violence/abuse)

Destiny was the rebellious type in her teens and her strict parents despised her as much as she despised them. She ran away to the SandWing kingdom (in one of the mixed towns) when she turned 8, and unfortunately she trusted the wrong dragons.

She was lucky she escaped with her life, but she was left with scars and trauma that would haunt her for the rest of her life. When Destiny finally gathered her wits enough to return to her family, they told her that she was an adult and frankly "this was her own fault."

Destiny returned to the SandWing kingdom after that, holing herself up in a rented apartment. She couldn't bare to be around other dragons like her family, but feeling fear at the sight of every SandWing passing by was still painful.

Every single stinger was poised to kill her.

When Destiny had an egg, it was like a punch in the gut. Part of her wanted to destroy it - but she couldn't bring herself to do that. She would give it away, but she feared this dragonet falling into the wrong talons.
So she kept the egg, maybe this was a painful redemption for her.

But still, when the dragonet hatched... all Destiny could see was the little things curled up stinger... and it twitched-
and Destiny wasn't taking any risks.

That is how Stardust had her tail stinger chopped off.
Stardust had most of her childhood spent in the mixed town Destiny was in. Destiny was distant of her daughter, but also deeply protective. Stardust wasn't allowed to ever spend time alone even with other dragonets. When Stardust was around 7, Destiny finally decided to move back near(er) to her parents.
Destiny never wanted to see them again, but she wanted her daughter be somewhere that felt at least... a little more safe.

That's where i'll end it for now.
