Description ink, marker, prismacolor, 2009

This was an experiment, just after I'd gotten my prismacolor markers in the mail. I inked the linework on tracing paper, then played with markers, taking advantage of the slow drying time to smudge colors together. It was still too lightly colored, so I used prismacolor pencils on different sides of the paper to see what kind of effects I could get. It was a fun experiment, but what I like best about this piece is still the subject matter and the peek at the intimate moment between two original comic book characters.

Like this what, the subject matter or the media? This is the only piece I've done in marker and colored pencil and I don't really have anything else that has this same kind of "intimacy." But that's why this one is a personal favorite of mine.

This is just amazing!! I love how vivid the colors are and tatts are just wicked!! I've never used prismacolor markers, but I love their pencils...and I love using them on the backside of tracing paper!

Faved!

Hell yes, the colored pencils on tracing paper are awesome, they almost seem to float, and then they look different depending on what color paper you put behind it. I haven't used the markers again since I did this, but they dry much slower on tracing paper so I smudged colors together when they were still wet. It was pretty fun, I should do it again. Thanks for the fave!

hey no prob! i'm rather inspired to pick me up some prismacolor markers and tracing paper and experiment myself!!
[link] and [link] are two that I've done...the Bladed Sisters one doesn't have a real background...I edited that in on paint.net, but the Bhudicae and Malaket does, altho that has been rather pixelated due to the image saving...

They started off as V:tM characters. Shiloh, Tzimisce on the left and Harvey, Lasombra on the right. Hopefully one day they will turn into a preview comic called "The Art of Darkness," and eventually an illustrated novel. The preview is currently in the works, but I work almost 60 hours a week and I do everything but half the writing. Plus I'm slow... and it's a bunch of stuff I've never done before: backgrounds, perspective, telling stories with pictures, expressions, etc.

60 hours! Wow.

I hope that it still goes ahead, even if slowly.

if i were to buy anything off of deviant art and hang it upon my wall in a frame, this would be it. I love this picture. I love the juxtaposition of color and mood. He's this towering, intimidating figure, cast in dark colors and clearly wears an intentional conflicted expression. He's begrudgingly accepting the tenderness of this woman who is so boldly his complete opposite. everything about her is bright on the outside; hair, skin, lips, the color of her ink tattoos (which also parallel his black spiraling tattoos). I also love the sneaky little addition of her fingertips slipping into the void in his chest, as if oblivion itself lived where this man's heart should be. And I love the title. It is so appropriate. "Trust Me". Clearly he doesn't want to, or doesn't entirely know how... and for her for her to dare get close to one as imposing as he, she has to trust that he will give her what she needs... whatever that may be.
