Description
Night fell fast on the small farm. Woody was collecting his tools and Jessie was putting away the barn.

Jessie hadn't said a word to Woody since his conversation with Buzz earlier that day. He was getting irritated.

Jessie closed up the barn, then she stormed past Woody and went inside the house. He let out an angry sigh and slammed his tools into the box. He carried the box into the house and dropped it on the floor. The boom echoed.

"What in the hell is your problem, Jess?!" He shouted.

Jessie just glared at him.

Woody threw up his arms in frustration. "Oh, this is real mature!"

"Why didn't you talk to me first? About the Sheriff thing..." She said angrily after a time.

"Why should I have to?"

"Because it's dangerous." Jessie replied as she crossed her arms.

"You think I don't know that? I can take care of myself, Jess."

"You could get killed."

"I haven't died yet. Given what we've been through, that's sayin' something."

Jessie wasn't amused. "This isn't a joke, Woody."

"I never said it was." He replied sternly.

Both glared at each other for a while.

"Jessie, this is my decision to make, not yours."

"So you're just gonna let yourself get killed?" She hissed.

"Why do you assume that I am going to die? Not all sheriffs are killed on the job, you know."

"Most are killed because of their job. Look at what happened to your Dad!" She shouted.

Woody didn't respond right away. The anger quickly built up.

"What did you say?!" He screamed as he stormed his way to her. Jessie recoiled, scared by the venom in his voice.

"You heard me! That is exactly what I am talking about. You're never safe-" Jessie yelled, ignoring her fear.

Woody punched the wall next to Jessie's head. She gasped. He held his fist against the wall.

There was a second-long pause where neither one moved, absorbing the situation.

"Get out!" She shrieked.

"I was plannin' on it!" He screamed back. He stomped to the door and slammed it as he left.

Jessie slid down the wall until she was sitting on the floor. She began to cry.

Woody left The Saloon a few hours later. He returned home in a drunken stupor.

Jessie heard the front door get pushed open and then slammed shut. She buried her face in her pillow as fresh tears stung her eyes.

Woody locked the door, stumbled to the couch, and dropped himself onto it.

A tear fell down his cheek as he slowly fell asleep.
