Description I know this one has its faults but I am kind of proud of it. I usually draw people simply standing around, doing nothing, and this time I really pushed myself to do something that was difficult for me (not to mention, action instead of romance? I must have caught something!).Β

This Super Smash Brothers battle between Link (from the Legend of Zelda) and Marth (from Fire Emblem) - this particular move - is also something that I have been meaning to draw for years. The idea sprung from the strange collision of the song Send Me a Sign by Gamma Ray, the game Super Smash Brothers and the manga Ranma1/2. I love to make up scenes when I listen to music and to this song I imagine a mishmash of Super Smash Brothers matches, that in turn take inspiration from other battles that made an impact on me. Ranma1/2 is such a huge source of inspiration to me overall but the battles in particular are real eye-candy. Rumiko Takahashi's drawing style is fairly simple but there is so much movement going on that I always forget I am reading a manga and each battle is more creative than the other. This pose is something I stole from when Ryoga first appears at Ranma's school to challenge him to a battle, descending from above and trying to get a hit in with his red umbrella. The move is fairly similar to an actual attack of Link's while Marth's backflips are fairly similar to Ranma's skillful dodge. This HAD to be done and I finally did it!

By the way, I have always imagined Link and Marth to be fierce rivals and I love that an event match in Super Smash Brothers Melee has them facing off against each other and that Sakurai who is in charge of the series post pictures of them battling it out for the next Smash that is in the works.Β

The amount of detail in this crawing.. Amazing amazing job!! How do you get the lines so nice and crisp? I could really use some help as I'm a traditional artist.

"I know this one has its faults but I am kind of proud of it." - your first sentence in the description

Tell me, why are you starting like that? If you look closely, almost every work you find here has it's tinier or bigger faults, so it doesn't really matter if you can find some in your own picture. This work of yours is absolutely gorgeous, and you have every right to be proud of yourself, not "kind of", dear.
You did such a wonderful job, and I am very happy to read that you finally managed to draw something out what you wanted to do for years. I have to agree with everybody else, the details are stunning, and everytime I look at it I can discover something new. Their expressions have so much emotion, and I can really feel the tense atmosphere and heat of battle.
It's kind of funny that they somehow reminded me of Ranma and Ryoga before reading your description. Well, now I know why!

Haha, you brought a smile to my face mentioning how it made you think of Ranma and Ryoga even before reading the description I tried my best to be confident and mention I was proud but I guess I still have some way to go Β

Thank you so much for all of the nice things you have written about this picture. You touched on all the things I wanted to achieve (especially emotion). I am so thankful!

A thousand thanks. I cannot put into words how happy you made me I'm always a bit surprised when something I've done is called detailed and at the same time it is such a great compliment that it makes me squirm and blush because I'm so happy Β

Geeeeezzzzz- How much heart and effort did you just put in this??!

The way these characters' poses and eyecontact are dynamic and fiercen, aligning very well with the intensity of their combat- and you nailed it to the end with rubble falling up with pressured air coming off from the downward thrust Link's using.

Amazing picture, I wish it'd get colored soon someway!

I put enough heart and effort (and hours) into it to be devastated when somebody told me it looked great so far

Joking aside, I cannot put into words how grateful I am for your comment. I feel very flattered that someone would take the time to describe one of my works with such emotion. It is the greatest compliment I could ever receive and I thank you for that
