AWRIGHT!Thought it was time for a bit of L4D again.
It isn't much... but idk. I like RoRo and I thought I could take a little break from those really dark outlines.
I'm awfully uninspired lately. Or maybe my laziness has consumed another great portion of my already weakened enthusiasm.
Thank god I'm going back home in about a couple of weeks. Any longer and I'd be ripe for the loony bin.

The thing that makes me most upset is when people are all, "OMG RO IS SUCH A BORING CHARACTER - ZOEY WAS SO MUCH MORE DYNAMIC BLUHBLUHBLUH"

In the original L4D, there was hardly ANY character interaction worth speaking of! The most interesting character would have to be Francis, and that was just because of his constant "I hate..." thing. The rest of them HARDLY stepped out of their assigned stereotypes!
i.e., the token black guy, the token (crazy/badass?) war veteran, and the token woman. Before the Sacrifice came out, there was little more than that to their personalities! Especially Zoey! (The only interesting thing I could ever remember her saying was "*in response to Francis* Yeah, I hate birds, too!" )
In comparison, L4D2 made character interaction a staple. All those various, dynamic characters with vibrant personalities and constant dialogue! Ro might have been a little less vibrant, but that's only compared to the nutjobs she's compared with, and I also get the whole, "I'm the big sister / only down-to-earth person in this group" vibe from her. That doesn't make her any less of a great character! In fact, I get the feeling a character like hers is NEEDED in the situations they were going through.
Okay - I know this thing is becoming like a freaking essay, but I gotta get one more thing off my chest. The most ridiculous excuse I've heard from a person about why they hate Rochelle was because she "looked like a fucking whore wearing all that make-up".
SERIOUSLY. I hardly even NOTICED her make-up before they said anything! And she used to be a news producer!! Of course looks are going to be important to her! Besides - she could possibly see it as one of those things that restores a sense of normalcy! Like, "God damn it, the entire world is going to shit, but at least I still have this..." or something... I actually think it's really interesting!
I'm pretty sure the reason so many people are jizzing all over Zoey and hating on Ro is strictly because of appearance. They like Zoey because she's the "Geeky, pretty nerd-girl-next-door" that fanboys can dream about and fap over. Rochelle isn't, plus she's black. Since they're not physically attracted to her, they go to the other extreme and find EVERY tiny thing "wrong" with her, and shit-storm it up.
Quite frankly, it's insulting, and it makes me a little disappointed, because, as a black, female gamer, myself, it gives this particularly ugly vibe of "you'll never truly be one of us" or "you're not welcome in our world". It's fucking depressing, man.
I'M SORRY FOR DUMPING THAT ALL OVER YOUR PAGE, HURPA DERP.
TL;DR RO DESERVES AS MUCH, IF NOT MORE RESPECT AND LOVE AS ZOEY AND I HATE TO SAY IT, BUT YOU'RE KIND OF A JERK TO DISAGREE.

I agree with everything you wrote there.
Although I must say. The greatest character development the survivors from L4D1 got was from fans, through fan art and discussions, roleplay and whatnot. And that kinda stuck to those characters in the end.
And it's true, out of the 4 only Francis seemed like the only (kinda) non-stereotype. I still love the game to death, but those are facts.
And I also heavily agree on the additional stuff you pointed out about Ro. You've brought some insight on the make-up thing since I haven't actually noticed any make-up on her either :S
I think Ellis stole the show with all of his stories, he's the one that will stick out the most, but This group of survivors is far more balanced and had a bit more thought put into their making. Which I hope is something that valve will invest even more time in in their next sequel.
And I think her playing the big sister role is actually a plus point.
But let ignorant idiots be their dumb selves, they're not worth getting upset over, and it's better not to be part of a group of puberty ridden white boys who spend most of their time with a hand down their pants anyway.
