...Pyrrha stared, her emerald eyes glistening as Jaune pulled her into his arms, careful not to apply too much pressure to her ravaged chest as he stroked her hair.
"Jaune....?" she whispered, her hesitant hands coming up to lightly embrace her partner.

Her only response, to her shock, was an anguished sniffle.

"Oh God, Pyrrha....." Jaune sobbed "Do you have....Do you have ANY IDEA how scared I was? I thought I had lost you! I never thought three days could take so long to go by...when i found Ren and Nora in the hospital, and they told me they hadn't seen you, I...I........Oh God, Pyrrha!"

Pyrrha's heart leaped into her throat as Jaune's words slammed into her like the gear wheel that had drained her aura at the top of the tower, as Jaune slumped over her and devolved into helpless sobbing. Tears ran freely down her own cheeks as realization dawned.

He...couldn't find me....he had no way of knowing what had actually happened, in all that confusion....

But...but that means....

"oh god....Jaune, you thought....you thought....?"

You thought I was...already gone?

"Promise me!"

Jaune's words cut back into her consciousness as, shoulders trembling, he squeezed Pyrrha close, still careful not to agitate her wounds.

"Promise me, Pyrrha, that you'll never do something like that again! that no matter what, no matter what you're wrapped up in, you'll never leave us...leave ME, and go running off like that! We're your friends, Pyrrha, Ren, Nora, Ruby and Yang and Sun and Everyone! We'll always be there for you, but you have to let us be there! We were heartbroken when we thought you....You...ah, God Dammit! We love you, Pyrrha! I...-I- love you, Pyrrha!"

Pyrrha's trembling lips couldn't form a single sound as Jaune fell back into hiccuping sobs. His words seemed to tear away at the barriers she'd put up to ward off years of loneliness that had been piling atop itself throughout her years of training.

What...what have I done?

after so long trying to make friends....to just...to just be normal, did i really almost...throw it away?

and...wait, what did Jaune just say?

"Oh Jaune...." Pyrrha wept as her eyebrows pinched and she squeezed Jaune close "I promise...I promise!"

for several long minutes, the only sound in the stark confines of the room was the sound of anguished sobbing, as pent up emotions flowed out of the two teens....to say nothing of the wet eyes of the teens just outside the door.....

but yeah, JUST in time for V4, here's part FOUR of "the Awakening" in my "Mother Maiden" RWBY AU.

and yes, there will be a Part Five. and MAYBE a Part six.
