I also do a ton of marker artwork-especially combined with colored pencils, graphite and acrylic paint.
You can even add markers on top of your colored pencils afterwards, like "shadowing-in colors" with markers. All you need is some paper towels, to clean your marker tips as you go.
By the way, white-out is also very handy to have for highlights and eye reflections!

Yeahm I sometimes use markers mixed with other medias like watercolor or colored pencils, but I always put the marker in the bottom layer and I apply the watercolor or pencil above because I don't want to spoil the marker's nib xD
