A little history lesson. On January 21, 2012. Season 2 Episode 14 of mlp:fim called "The Last Roundup" where Derpy was voiced for the 1st time in the mlp series, since she was a background character in the 1st mlp episode (her name was unknown at the time). & the voice actor was Tabitha St. Germain(the one who voiced Rarity, Vice Principal Luna and Princess Luna). In this episode, Rainbow Dash setting up the banner for one of Applejack's rodeo competitions. Then, a lighting bolt came at Rainbow Dash almost missing her tail, & that's when she said "Now careful Derpy!" & Derpy was bouncing on a thundercloud (& U now the rest) Now the term "Derpy" was an offensive name to those who are mentally challenged, & ppl who have disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, etc). & Ppl got so mad of the episode,
that they even went on to Hasbro & send them hate mails, death threats, u name it, & also wants Derpy to be removed from the show completely, & that's when #savederpy was born. & throughout the years, Derpy has become one of the most popular mlp background characters in history, to this day, Derpy is still popular among the fandom. So ya Derpy has officially became an MLP character.
