My first and only "completed" oil painting so far. I say "completed" because I know it can be improved upon but I'm not going to touch it again.

I painted this while at school in Sweden, far away from my family. My art teacher suggested we look through some old calendars for inspiration. That's where I found the original picture, a photograph sent in to the calendar and chosen by the makers to be featured. Unfortunately I don't have that image any more.

Anyway, I intended the work to be calm and still, like the original picture but once I was finished, my art teacher asked me what the boy was thinking. I said "He wants to go home," surprised that this was true. My own homesickness had seeped into it.
