i've not heard the swong in question, however, withiout backgtround knowlage or any text to guide the veiwer along, you still get a real sense of what this is all about. the pannles are a really neat way of presenting this narritive and the man's dispair over losing his significant other is so apparant, what witht he haunted, dispairng light you cast him in. thiss is also helped by the imagry such as the bed which he only takes up half of and prehapse the more poinyant caption of the two lovers in a classic 'whatching the sun set' pose, only to see they're looking out on their crumpling realationship.
the protagonist's termoil is best shown in that final pannle with the close up of his wide, bloodshot eye. you can really see the impact this break up has had on him and you can't help but feel for the guy.
