Rarity was trying to busy herself with her outfits she was designing as she was waiting for her train to arrive to go to Trottingham to open her latest boutique. She was nervous for the grand opening, she wanted it to be a success and live up to the last one in Manehattan. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard the door bell ring, breaking her from her deep thoughts.
She turned around and was about to greet a customer when she recognized a familiar face.
"Miss Maud Pie! How lovely it is to see you again! What brings you to town?" Rarity smiled happily as she walked over to her friend waiting at the door.
"My sister invited me to Gummy's birthday party this year," Maud exclaimed in only Maud can, "so I decided to drop by and see how you are."
"Well, that is very lovely of you to do, thank you. I am just fumbling around before my train comes."
Rarity starting to pace around from mannequin to mannequin, fixing the displays when Maud placed her hoof on her shoulder and bring her into a hug. Rarity felt her face flush a tiny bit; she's never really experienced this kind of compassion with Maud Pie before, after years of knowing one another. She started to get comfortable in the strong pony's arms when she felt something a bit heavy on her chest and Maud pulling away, adjusting a necklace onto Rarity's neck.
"I came by to bring you this as good luck to you, as a congratulations."
"Oh Maud!" Rarity exclaimed, looking down at the beautiful gemstone hanging around her neck, "it is truly radiant!"
Maud did one of her little smiles as she spoke, "Its only radiant now that you're wearing it."
Rarity felt her heart leap to her throat as her cheeks flushed again. She wasn't sure how Maud was putting it and as Rarity finally found her voice again, Maud looked at the clock and pushed Rarity's bag to her.
"Go to the station now, or you'll miss the train." Maud pushed Rarity out the door. She closed the door and turned back to the white blushing pony. "You will do great, now I must go to my sister. I hope you enjoyed the necklace."
As Maud walked away, Rarity couldn't help but wonder if Maud was trying to flirt with her or being a good friend. All Rarity knew was that she started to have feelings towards the monotone grey pony.
This was going to be a long trip.

I think this was months before Rarity and Maud Pie actually became a couple. I would think Rarity would feel very confused on if Maud was flirting with her or not for a long time until she finally asked her how she felt and Maud told her how obvious she was trying to be.
I also think Rarity cherishes the necklace Maud gave her ever since.
